Your First Visit to CYAN Dental: What to Expect

By Dr. Iram Tasnim

Many people put off seeing a dentist because they don't know what to expect, or because of an uncomfortable experience in the past. We understand. Your first visit with us is about getting to know you, understanding your concerns and giving you a clear picture of your oral health, with no pressure and no surprises.

Before you arrive

You can book online, call us or send a message on WhatsApp. When you book, tell us if you are in pain so we can see you as soon as possible.

Please bring:

  • A list of any medicines you take, including blood thinners, diabetes and blood pressure medicines.
  • Any previous dental X-rays or reports, if you have them.
  • Your questions. Write them down so nothing is forgotten.
Let us know if you are pregnant, have a heart condition, are on blood-thinning medicine or have any allergies. This helps us plan safe treatment for you.

Arriving about 10 minutes early gives you time to fill in a short health form without feeling rushed.

What happens during the visit

  1. A conversation first. Your dentist will ask what brings you in, about any pain or concerns, and about your general health and medicines.
  2. A complete examination. We check every tooth, your gums, your bite and the soft tissues of your mouth, including a screening for early signs of oral cancer.
  3. X-rays, only if needed. X-rays show decay between teeth, problems under old fillings and the health of the bone. We take them only when they will genuinely help us decide on your care.
  4. A clear explanation. We show you what we found and explain it in plain language. If treatment is needed, you will get a step-by-step plan with options and costs, so you can decide in your own time.
  5. Treatment, if you want it. Simple care such as a cleaning can often be done the same day. For anything more, we schedule it at a time that suits you.

A first visit usually takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Nervous about the dentist?

You are not alone, and it is nothing to be embarrassed about. Tell us when you book or when you arrive. We will explain each step before we do it, and we will agree on a simple signal, like raising your hand, so you can ask us to pause at any time. Modern local anaesthetics make most treatment comfortable, and we never rush.

Bringing children

We love seeing children, and an early, positive first visit sets them up for a lifetime of healthy teeth. We recommend a child's first dental check by their first birthday, or within six months of the first tooth appearing. Keep the visit positive at home: avoid words like "hurt" or "injection", and let them know the dentist is going to count their teeth.

After your visit

You will leave knowing the state of your oral health and exactly what, if anything, needs to be done. We will remind you when your next check-up is due, usually in six months.

We look forward to meeting you.
